Fortnite is a record-breaking FPS battle royale game developed and published by Epic Games in 2017. It is a multiplayer survival game with a touch of sandbox gaming element in the mix. It starts with 100 people, with only one person remaining at the end. It is available in three different modes. Fortnite: Save the World – a cooperative survival against zombies, Fortnite Creative – the sandbox game mode, and finally, Fortnite Battle Royale – a free-to-play battle royale game.

Fortnite Battle Royale is an overwhelming success and can even be considered a cultural phenomenon. As of 2021, Fortnite Battle Royale had around 83.3 monthly active players. At the end of 2021, it had over 400 million registered users.

Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play, but players can make in-app purchases, mostly related to cosmetic updates on players’ characters. The game is available on Windows, Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Fortnite was available on iOS and macOS till August 2020. Still, the game has been controversially removed from the App Store over the in-app purchase dispute. The game can be played across cross-platforms and allow for cross-platform progression, with one needing to only sign up with their created account on every platform.
