The most famous Dota2 pro players: Testimonials and influencers in eSports (2)

Last year, Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota2) made the headlines for hosting the highest prize money tournament in the history of eSports – The International – for the fourth consecutive time. Thanks to the DotA2-community it was possible to collect the record sum of 18,4 million USD. Thus some players became millionaires, were able to live the ‘eSports dream’ and become legends that now have a big fan base. Reason enough for us to check who are the most famous Dota2 pro players.

Therefore – as a part of our series of articles ‘Testimonials and influencers in eSports’ – we analyzed the social media appearances of professional Dota2 players, including facebook (likes), twitter (followers) and twitch.tv (followers and total channel views).

You can find the results below.

Note: The following data only takes professional Dota2 players into account who participated at the premier events in 2015 (such as The International, The Summit, MLG, ESL One and more). By looking at the data, please be aware of the fact that services like facebook, twitter or twitch.tv are not used by all professional players. Especially players from Asia use asia-based services.

* The eSports Marketing Blog rating (EMB rating) is a figure which is calculated by adding the cumulative amount of facebook-likes, twitter-and twitch.tv-channel-followers as well as the total amount of channel views of a certain player. This sum is divided by ten million. Although the figure does not give information about engagement, activity or other related data, it can be considered as an indicator regarding the popularity of a player. The rating only takes professional Dota2 players into account who participated at the premier events in 2015 (such as The International, The Summit, MLG, ESL One and more). By looking at the data, please be aware of the fact that services like facebook, twitter or twitch.tv are not used by all professional players. Especially players from Asia use asia-based services. By looking at the stats, please be aware of the fact that services like facebook, twitter or twitch.tv are used by most of the professional players, but some dont use all of them. Especially players from Asia use asia-based services.
