The Electronic Sports League (ESL) is going to host the ESL One Defense of the Ancients (DotA2) tournament in New York’s Madison Square Garden. On October 3 and 4, the eight best teams in the world are competing for a prize pool of $250.000.
New York Super Week organizer ReedPOP and the streaming platform twitch.tv are going to bring the ESL One to Madison Square Garden for a second time. Last year, the event was viewed by two million viewers.
According to managing director of ESL’s pro gaming division, Ulrich Schulze, this wasn’t the last time the Big Apple hosted the ESL One: “Bringing esports to the iconic Madison Square Garden last year was a dream come true, and our incredible fans have inspired us to make it a tradition. We’re dedicated to making this event even more legendary as we continue to tap into the $1 million prize pool we set aside for ESL One Dota 2 competitions.”
This year, the ESL One is going to be shown live on twitch.tv. Also, the tournament can be viewed in cinemas as part of the project “ESPORTS IN CINEMA”. The ESL One New York is the second ESL One event to be shown on the silver screen, according to the organizers it is not going to be the last time.
“Esports has reached the point where stadium events are the norm, not the exception, while millions of remote spectators want to follow the action live on Twitch. By continuing to partner with ESL and ReedPOP for events like ESL One at Madison Square Garden, it ensures our global audience gets the premium content they crave from the fastest growing sport.” so Kevin Lin, COO of twitch.tv, commenting on the renewed partnership with ESL.
